Ikumi Kayama received the Special Projects Award in 2015 for her work designing, producing, analyzing and reporting on a comprehensive membership survey. While serving as Recording Secretary on the Board in 2012, Ikumi created a membership survey in both a digital and analog format sent out to all GNSI members in the hopes of better understanding how GNSI could best serve its members. The survey consisted of 23 questions and was ultimately answered by 150 members (25% of membership at the time). The results of the survey were presented to the Board which used the valuable information gathered to create a more purposeful Guild.
Ikumi became a GNSI member in 2005, became of member of the Board in 2010, coordinated digital content for meetings, coordinated an exhibit and catalog for her chapter, DC, and more.
Award presented by President Amelia Janes
Artist by-lines are too often buried or completely overlooked. Yet the expertise and mastery our community of visual science communicators bring to the table is unsurpassed. The images we use on our website come from our Juried Members' Exhibits over the years, as judged by a panel of experts. We name them wherever possible below each image to celebrate their excellent work and to set an example for everyone to remember that these images don't create themselves. Please visit their websites and support their work.
