Visual Science Communication in Action

Visual Science Communication is a thriving field that produces stunning works of art that work to educate, engage, and inspire. Visual Science Communicators consist of illustrators, graphic designers, fine artists, data visualizers, book artists, and more. Their work is often created in partnership with scientists, researchers, or industry professionals. The Guild of Natural Science Illustrators has put together this visual directory of contemporary visual science communication pieces to demonstrate the talent and range that exists within the field, but also the endless possibilities that exist when working with a visual science communicator.

The gallery below contains the work of select GNSI members who have opted to show a small portfolio on our site. These works demonstrate the talent and range that exists within the field, but also the endless possibilities that come with working with a visual science communicator. To view specific genres of illustration (e.g. botanical art, anatomy, broader scicomm) choose from the “collections” listed below. You may also browse individual artists’ work using the “artists” dropdown.

Please note: this is an educational resource. If you are interested in contacting individual artists about their work, please do so directly through their websites. All of these artworks are copyrighted; do not use without express written permission from the artist.
