About the Setting

Nestled in the foothills of the Wasatch Front, the University of Utah (the U) is the flagship university and public research institution for Utah. As a leader in visualization, gaming, and scientific research, the U is a nexus for art and science in the Mountain West. Esteemed scientific and medical institutions are located on campus, including the University of Utah Medical School and Hospital, Huntsman Cancer Institute, and the Natural History Museum of Utah.

The campus is also home to Utah’s 1,500 acre state arboretum, which includes Red Butte Garden, the site of the GNSI 2020 Members’ Exhibit and opening reception. Off-campus exploration is easy with downtown SLC located less than four miles away. There you will find the Clarke Planetarium, the Leonardo Museum of Creativity and Innovation, and the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art.

Whether it’s the miles of hiking trails in the foothills, Antelope Island State Park to the northwest, or any one of the “Mighty 5” National Parks to the south, come and marvel at the natural beauty surrounding the GNSI 52nd Anniversary Annual Conference.

The Guild Juried Members’ Exhibition: Nature’s Palette

We have an exciting week planned, starting with the GNSI 2020 Members’ Exhibition: Nature’s Palette, located at Red Butte Garden, on the University of Utah campus. Red Butte Garden is the largest botanical garden in the Intermountain West with over 21 acres of gardens and 5 miles of hiking trails winding through the Wasatch foothills. Attendees will have access to the gardens from 3pm - 9pm, Monday, July 5, 2020, before and during the exhibition’s opening reception.
