In Memoriam: Gerald P. Hodge
We are saddened to report that Gerald P. "Jerry" Hodge, scientific and medical illustrator, fine artist and educator, passed away on June 7th. Karen Ackoff has posted this memorial tribute, and we will have an article in the Fall Journal featuring photos and some of Jerry's beautiful artwork.
Combining Science and Art at the USDA
GNSI member Taina Litwak describes her illustration job for the USDA in a recent blog entry. Taina works at the Smithsonian's Natural History Museum, where the Museum and the USDA have combined labs for researching insect species.
Taina also has her art in this year's GNSI Annual Exhibit, U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) 2012 Employee Art Exhibit, and awards for 2 pieces entered in the BioCommunications Association annual visual media competition (an on-line show) "BioImages 2012".

How do you minimize your travel pack studio? Have you invented creative containerization for an 'in-the-field' workstation? Gather your travel pack studio, (which will take just a minute) slide in a digital pic/video of you 'in the field' and a piece of artwork completed there and display them together.

Humans in Space Youth Art Competition
Entry deadline October 21, 2012
Youth worldwide 10-18 years old are invited to learn about space exploration and express their view of "How will humans use science and technology to explore space, and what mysteries will we uncover?" through musical, visual, literary, or video artwork.

49th Annual Wild Mushroom Show Call for Art Entries
Entry deadline is September 1st.
The Art Committee of the Puget Sound Mycological Society (PSMS) is pleased to announce our fourth juried Art Exhibit to be part of the 49th Annual Wild Mushroom Show. The Wild Mushroom Show will be October 13-14, 2012 at the Mountaineer's Club, Seattle, WA. Further details and instructions on how to enter are included in the prospectus and entry form.
