SciArt-L is a friendly, helpful place where you can ask questions and share ideas about natural science illustration. Topics previously discussed include: Job openings, computer hardware and software support, art material suppliers, traditional media, recent publications, network resources, workshops and much more.

SciArt-L is sponsored by the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators (GNSI) and hosted by the University of Nebraska Computer Center. Started by Polly Denham Tandon in 1996, the listserv currently has about 200 subscribers worldwide.

  The listserv is email based so you must have internet access and an email account to subscribe and participate.

Subscribing:
If you are interested in subscribing to this listserv, send an email message to the computer (it is a machine, not a person) at UNL at the following address (items are case insensitive):

   LISTSERV@UNL.EDU

Leave the subject area blank.
In the message area type:

Subscribe SciArt-L your name

An example would be:

Subscribe SciArt-L Lana Johnson

Please turn off any signature files you might have.

The machine at LISTSERV@UNL.EDU will report the message as an error if you have signature files in the message area or if you type in a subject in the subject line for any messages you send to it. The LISTSERV will automatically get your email address that is inserted in the header of your email message.

You will receive a Welcome message from the Listserv machine that provides additional information on the listserv and instructions on unsubscribing and other selected options. Keep this message forever (and refer to it as needed).

Once you have subscribed to the Listserv, you will receive all e-mail messages posted to the list.

Unsubscribing:
To unsubscribe from the listserv at any time, send an e-mail message to the computer at UNL at the following address (items are case insensitive):

Leave the subject area blank
In the message area type:

SIGNOFF SCIART-L

Turn off all signature files.
Send message.

The Listserv will automatically get your e-mail address and delete you from SCIART-L listserv.

You should unsubscribe if:

• Your e-mail address changes (you cancel an old one, get a new one, change it just for fun -- or whatever) PLEASE unsubscribe from your old address and then resubscribe with the new one! If you donÍt do this, the list manager gets an error message for EVERY single message the list receives when it tries to deliver the messages to your defunct address
• You wonÍt be checking your e-mail. When your mailbox gets full, the list manager gets an error message for EVERY single message that it tries to get delivered to your address. Remember that all messages are archived, so you can go to the http://crcvms.unl.edu/archives/ web site to check out whatÍs happening -- even if you are unsubscribed!

Responding to messages or posting new messages:
To respond to a message from the Listserv, hit your reply button and it will automatically reply back to the Listserv.

If you want to post a new message to the Listserv, send an e-mail message to:

SciArt-L@UNL.EDU

Your message will go out to everyone who is currently subscribed to the list.

Acknowledgement of messages you send to the Listserv:
If you would like to have the messages you send to the list come back to you as e-mail, compose a separate message to:
