MEETING REPORTS

Exhibit, May 9, 2003
Southern California Academy of Sciences

Stephanie Engstrom at the Southern California Academy of Sciences exhibit, May 9, 2003 at Cal State Northridge.

Once again we were invited to display our work during the wine and cheese poster presentation at the Southern California Academy of Sciences' annual meeting. This year's meeting was held at the CSU Northridge campus. Special thanks to Pat Farris for helping to organize this exhibit. There was a good showing of artwork this year, and a lot of interest from the scientists at the conference.

Meeting, May 10, 2003
Pierce College

Peter Carpenter explains storyboard art at the May 10 meeting of the Southern California GNSI meeting (with Michelle Schwengel looking on).
A storyboard drawing by Peter Carpenter.
We had a wonderful presentation by Peter Carpenter, a local story board artist. Peter explained the process of story board artistry, from obtaining gigs through completion of the final illustrations. He gave us a good overview of the industry with it's many niches and specialties. We were able to view many examples of his work and that of others in his field. We also got a tour of his art box to see how he contends with the unique demands of his job.

After the presentation we were able to explore an art festival being held by the Pierce College Art Department. Several of us took advantage of a unique fundraising drive in the ceramic room; buy a ceramic bowl and they'd fill it with home made chili for free! It was a tasty end to an excellent day.
