
GNSI-CA's regular meeting locations include a joint show at the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History and the Science Illustration Program at California State University, Monterey Bay. We offer our members lectures, demonstrations, workshops and field trips, as well as opportunities for group exhibitions. Anyone interested in scientific illustration is welcome to attend our meetings.

Among the activities of the day will be to meet as a community to hear and see a JGI "lay of the land" by JGI Public Affairs Manager, David Gilbert, a tour of the facility by scientific staff, including two different DNA sequencing platforms and an emerging single-cell genomics pipeline.

GNSI-CA Chapter Hike
Hiking and Sketching at Muir Woods http://www.nps.gov/muwo/index.htmMarch 11th, 2012 at Noon.
Meet at the plaza (wide open area) in front of the visitor center. We will take a one hour hike out to Cathedral Grove and back, with 1hr. stops to sketch at bridge #2 and the 2nd boardwalk. There is $7 park fee, and is otherwise free to members, $10 for non-members. Bring a sit-upon, a lunch and your sketching materials. Permit parking only, strictly enforced, please carpool as much as possible. A park naturalist, Marvin Craiger will join us for the first hour.

Rare Books - Northern-CA GNSI May Meeting
On Sunday May 15, 11 a.m. Northern-CA GNSI members will get a tour of the California Academy of Sciences Library, and visit rare books of early natural history illustrations. Catesby, the Temple of Flora, Frances Willughby's Ornithology, Audubon, flowers, birds, engravings... special requests welcome! No tickets needed!
We'll meet inside the rear entrance at 11 a.m., then go up with the librarian as a group. Note the Bay to Breakers may affect parking/traffic, come early. Consider sketching in the museum afterwards. See you there!

Calls for Entry into the Art of Nature Show: Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History, April 9–June, 2011 were sent to chapter members. The exhibit will emphasize land plants, animals, fungi and habitats fitting the museum’s focus on terrestrial inhabitants of California, and images of specific animals are desired.
Leadership Opportunities: Our chapter needs enthusiastic people to plan activities (exhibits, field trips, workshops, lectures).
