Problems Saving images with Photoshop Fireworks

This is an absolut mistery to me. A CMYK image created in Photoshop at 300 ppi and 600X600 pixels will open in Fireworks at 72 ppi.  If I resize it in FW to 300 ppi, save it, and then open in Photoshop will have the correct resolution but in RGB mode. Does anyone know why is this?

My Photoshop images were saved as a max > resolution (12) JPGs. These JPGs open at 72 in Fireworks and I can't find where in the Preferences  if FW automatically is designed to open JPGs at 72, even if that image has a 300 res

Much obliged if I get this mistery solved

I don't use fireworks, so I could be all wet here. But What is the "size" of the image when opened in Fireworks? Fireworks is designed for the creation of web presented material. 72 dpi is a default web standard. But all the pixels should still be there just spread out over a larger area to make up the difference. Theimage will still be 600 x 600 pixels. As it will display at 72dpi in many browsers, that is the way fireworks saves it. Photoshop does much the same thing when you use the "Save for Web..." option. Since fire works is for web work it probably does not have a CMYK color space, so it converts to RGB when you open it. There is such a thing as CMYK jpg, but they are not universally supported I suspect.

Thanks Britt, the image opens at the correct size 600X600 but at 72ppi. Obivously images created for print in Photoshop should not be edited/checked or saved in FW. This would be a big mistake, because as many of you allready said FW is a software created primarelly to work with vector images for the web.
