GNSI-CA May Meeting
May 5th, noon-4pm. Department of Energy
Joint Genome Institute, Walnut Creek
Among the activities of the day will be to meet as a community to hear and see a JGI "lay of the land" by JGI Public Affairs Manager, David Gilbert, a tour of the facility by scientific staff, including two different DNA sequencing platforms and an emerging single-cell genomics pipeline.
Following that, there will an informal community brainstorming session to imagine novel ways to depict the stories that these genomes tell and how better (through illustration, multimedia and edgy writing) to engage the public with these concepts and their ultimate benefits for improving our understanding of the world around us--through DNA sequencing and analysis.Don't know anything at all about genomics? Nor molecular biology? No problem, you've come to the right place! I encourage you to participate in this exciting opportunity!
Meeting agenda:
Noon: Lunch provided
12:30-1:15pm: Introduction/Overview to JGI by David Gilbert
1:15-2pm: Tour of the Facility
2-3:30pm: Community brainstorming session
