Recovering Botanical Art

Posted in

The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History's web site features an article by the Guild's Alice Tangerini. It recounts her involvement in recovering long lost museum-owned art created by Frederick Andrew Walpole, a staff botanical artist. Working in conjunction with the late James White of the Hunt Botanical Institute, Alice tracked art that surfaced many years after disappearing and was being offered for sale on eBay.  The story shows the difficulty in retrieving art in such situations.
